Assuming that it is a 'clean' environment since electronics are all over the place, it's worse than inconsiderate..it's inappropriate.

Is it considered dumb to just allow customers to bring filth into a shop and instead of confront them post on Anandtech instead?

Say for instance someone brings their computer in. Okay. They're bringing it in for the first time. This is prior to any work being done. They put it up on say a desk. They talk to you and start dusting it with their fingers and start removing all the dust and just throwing it on the ground around them. This is prior to any work being done at all. I would clean it, of course, if I worked on it.

Retail is a very I can't find the word for it. It's very "special." You say one wrong thing and the customer gets upset and leaves and tells all his friends what assholes they were about me dusting my computer.

Which is why you vacuum your store, or have some plebe do it, stop worrying about some fracking dust and start worying about making some sales.

I work in retail as well, and if there's ever a place where "The customer is always right"' then that's it. It really doesn't matter if it's rude or not.

Just put up with it, say thank you and :)

There does come a point where you can retaliate legitimately, however. If the customer's business is worth less than the cost of the aggravation of serving them, then feel free to invite them to take their business elsewhere.

Oh and remember to always :)
