Is this considered inappropriate?

You're a computer lab assistant for an elementary school. Throughout the day, classes of children are brought in to play with and use the computers. Naturally, the kids will have questions on how to do simple things. Would it be considered inappropriate to show the kids how to perform what they want by placing your hand over their hand that is on the mouse and move it around?

i think its ok. but i sure in the heck wouldnt risk it. just takes one kid to cry mollestation even though it didndt happen.

I do substitute teaching for all ages JK and up... my rule is:

never initiate contact ever

if they grab your hand to get direction then yeah, I'd say that's okay - don't go all assuming and touching everyone who asks where the save button is though.

Trust me, kids everywhere love to get all touchy feely with their teachers; it's difficult to tell them that no, they can't grab there - males and females - because they just do not understand about the social mores that govern personal space.

huh? kiddies grab you??

Have to agree with waggy, not inappropriate, but better to avoid any potential trouble. Just point at the screen where you want them to go.

Kinds sad that you can't even show a kid how to do something without being accused of being a pervert. Or even having to ask the op's question.

Not around kids much? Their heads, hands, etc always end up somewhere they shouldn't on both men and women.

This is just sad that this is what it has come to.

When I read this post all could think was, who could misconstrue moving a mouse and clicking? I guess I'm just naive.

yeap. they just do not know. They are free with the hugs, pats and holding hands.

never ever ask them:

if they like movies about gladiators

if they have been in a cockpit before

if they have ever seen a grown man naked

Haha yeah when my little cousin was at the "wrong" height he would run and give me a hug and SLAM the side of his head right there sometimes 😛

it should be ok to do that in that type of situation, but it is not. 🙁 Children are so innocent.
