Before I buy this computer I want to make sure its good enought to play Half-Life 2 at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 at decent framerates without having to turn off the extras.

Shuttle XPC Socket 939, Model SN95G5
NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black, Model ND-3520A BK
NEC 1.44MB Black Internal Floppy Drive
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD
Mushkin Dual Pack 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor - OEM
MSI nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/VIVO, AGP 8X, Model "NX6600GT-VTD128" -RETAIL

Is there anything that I should change? Or will all of this stuff suffice. I really don't want to spend much more if any more on the computer but the main reason Im building it is to upgrade from a 1.4ghz athlon, 512mb ram, 8mb video system. I know I will see a performace gain in everything, but I want to make sure its good enough before I buy it.

Thanks,
Josh

Ok well I have been out of the PC building/research world as or lately. But I do know that my processor is better, but the 6600GT. Is it better than a 9800pro? Isnt half-life optimised for ati however so my nvidia card is at a loss?

Do you have an effects on your turned off enable to play with that resolution?

Yes.
You have been a member of these forums long enough to know that you should have used the search feature though.

I did search, didnt find anything on a 6600. I found some stuff on the 6800. I may just have overlooked the thread however.

First of all AMDman12GHz, you should know you're building a heck of a system, it'll run anything out there right now without flinching for a sec. so you can relax and get your awesome rig.

I too was a little surprised, since I saw your not a new comer here, nevertheless, I really don't understand people like Gamingphreek, I mean what's with the f***ing flaming?! He asked a legit. question, if you don't want to answer, just don't, and don't bother us with your frustrations. BLAHHH!

Looks great. It'll be just fine for that type of gaming.

Ok Thanks guys, sorry for posting this, but I couldn't find what I wanted to know exactly searching.

I knew the computer would play it pretty well but I kept having someone tell me to get a X800. I didnt know if for some reason the 6600GT wouldn't pump out enough juice.

Thanks again,
Josh

From what I know is the ATi cards are better for the HL2 engine but I have a 6800nu unlocked and HL2 plays awesome on it. I've heard somewhere about yellowish water caused by the 6800's but I haven't seen that yet. The 6600gt will do fine. Sure if you forked out a little bit more money you would get better visual quality and FPS. What's your budget look like?

Edit: Also..if you don't like how the 6600gt plays you could always sell it on here to get a better vid card.

Ok thanks, Thats pretty reassuring to me then. My budget is pretty much dead. I started pricing stuf on newegg and wanted to spend 600-800. Now im at 1100. :p. I don't want to spend that but I would rather go ahead and get something nice than have to upgrade almost all my componets later on.

BTW anyone know if this 6600gt will fit in that shuttle?

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. It looks a tad bit smaller than my BFG.

Now you have to change your name to AMDman18Ghz :p

I was flaming at all. I simply gave a statement. He has been a member for multiple years and has many posts. There are plenty of HL2 threads and performance guides out there.

I know he asked a legit question thats why i answered it.

Looks to me like you are the one who is flaming.
