Is this chipset temperature ok?

Is 65-70C idle, 70-75C load ok chipset temps? I read that as long as it's under 80C the chipset should be fine. Is that right?

If it is under the limit, then you should be fine, but that still is pretty hot and I do recommend buying some extra fans or something to help lower those temps.

go to google and search "(insert chipset name here)" +temps

See what comes up for your chipset, I'd imagine what's safe varies from chipset to chipset.

My C55 NB, a part of 650i chipset from NVidia runs at ~46-50C, and I consider that hot enough.

My SB was running at ~62C without the heatsink, now ~50C with the added heatsink, and I consider that hot enough.

65C - 75C is very hot for the chipset, IMHO. Add some extra cooling, like heatsink or even a fan.

I also have a side panel fan blowing on the CPu HSF and the 120mm 1800RPM exhaust fan.

Where can I get southbridge cooling? My SB doesn't have a fan/heatsink. The NB has a heatsink with loops. How would I install a fan on the SB if there's no loops/holes? Right now I'm just blowing an externel fan into the side of my PC which is keeping the chipset below 50C. Only heating problem I have is I think my CPU overheating. It hit about 68C when doing the 3Dmark cpu test. But I think that's ok because the 3dmark cpu test puts alot of stress on my CPU, I was getting 0-1FPS. Normal games shouldn't heat the cpu that high. 1000 bombers moving in supreme commander for a few mins made my cpu hit 64C but thats not a normal game circumstance either. My CPU's idle temp is 45-50C.

I used the larger "silver" one, placing it directly on the SB with the included 3M thermal tape.

I used the included little fan for my NB, after removing it from the black base.

Good luck!

BTW, depending on your ambient temperature, it seems that your CPU is running a bit on the hot side, too. My maximum load is ~60C, idle ~38C CPU, ~44C Core 1/2.
