hey guys,

I'm going to upgrade to an i7 system of following specs:
-Gigabyte P67A - UD3- B3 mobo
-Core i7 sandy bridge 2600K
-600W PSU
-GTX 460 1GB
-CASE -- (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Chassis/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000087)

-Kingston HyperX 4GB 1600MHz kit

My question is will that case be good enough for this system to just run?
It has only got two 80mm fans installed in it. Also, I have already got the case (its an old case).

AGAIN: i have this case:

Don't see why not, but with a system like that might as well get a nicer case.

well, this is going to be used for gaming mostly. The reason why i cant get a better case is because my dad already told me i cant get a better one. :(

But main thing is, even if i OC the cpu to 4GHz, will there be enough cooling or will the system overheat?

Well if this is going to be for gaming ditch the i7 and get an i5 2500k. The i7 will not make any real difference in games. Use the money you save to get a better case.

I like to think of a case as an investment, a good one will last you many years and several builds, it's worth getting a good one.

Definitely change to the i5-2500K for gaming.

As for the case, Yes, I suspect you're going to have heat issues since that only has 2-80mm fans.
What "600 watt PSU" are you considering/do you have?

Hey, getting a new case is going to be hard because good cases here in New Zealand cost about $200 US for a decent coolermaster/thermaltake one.
And ok, for money purposes going down to an i5 2500k is going to have me $130. Which still doesnt leave enough for a good case. :(

How about though, I drill some large holes for case fans in my current case using a hole saw. And then say, add 2 more 80mm fans?

Will that help?

Things will run a bit warm, but I don't think anything will overheat. I'd just try it before modifying your case.

$200 for a decent case sounds pretty nuts. What's your idea of a decent case?

I did some looking and browsing...$200NZ is about $160 US, but even when converting prices to US, many of the NZ online places seemed high when compared to newegg/amazon prices.

I swapped a couple of PMs with one of the other Kiwi's on here and he confirmed...New Zealand prices are quite a bit higher than we pay here in the USA.
He also recommended the following on-line e-tailers:

http://ascent.co.nz/

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/

He said they're not necessarily the cheapest...but have outstanding customer service...which often is worth a higher price.

hey guys, thanks for all your replies. Yes, i have had a look on American sites before and the prices are a lot cheaper then here in NZ. For example, the i7 2600k i was going to buy would have cost be $480NZ (about $390US).

As you saw cases are not exactly cheap here for a decent one.
I am not really fussed about the look of the case as look as it keeps the system cool enough and pumps out good performance.

So what do you think? Try out the setup with the current case or will temps be to high?

Thx for all your help.

Ouch. Maybe find a US ebay seller willing to ship to NZ? :D

Though I saw a few good ones that didn't seem too expensive, like the Antec 300.

Looks like you can replace your fans with 120mm ones. This will make a difference if you can buy some decent high speed 120mm fans by Scythe or another decent fan maker. Even seeing if you can find a relatively cheap case like the Antec 300 would do a lot of good.

But yeah, if your low on cash and fairly handy, go buy some 120mm fans and get busy with your drill.

Yeah, it looks like that case will take 2-120mm fans in place of the stock 80mm fans. That should help somewhat. I'd also look at whether it's possible to mount a fan on the side "air duct" that they show on the website. That might also help keep CPU/GPU cooler.

hey guys, bought all the parts that i needed and tryed out the existing case with 1 80mm side intake fan and 1 80mm exhaust on the back.

Specs:

Intel Core i7 2600K at stock With stock hsf/cooler
Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 Mobo(had some issues with this, updated bios all good)
Kingston HyperX 4gb 1600Mhz Kit
Seagate standard 320gb hdd
Corsair 620W PSU
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 460 1GB

My average CPU temp is 36 degrees with stock cooler and the above setup.
On crysis 2 it maximum goes to 62 degrees.

And i am planning to get 2 of these 120mm fans of Ebay:
