Is this card just crap or a good deal?

What do you all think of this card? I was plannign on gettting a 6600gt but heard that the x800gto is far better. They are the same price (the 6600gt and this gto) so what would I be better off getting out of these two listed below? I am a gamer but I am on a budget as you can see :)!

x800gto
Nvidia 6600GT

Could you guys tell me which one would be better for the money?
Thanks!

That one I'm 99% sure can't be unlocked. I'm sure I''ve seen one unlock of it thread, but haven't seen another.

But either way the x800GTO slaps the 6600GT around the world and then some.

The majority of x800GTOs will still OC pretty well. Same with 6600GTs.

Go with the x800GTO for sure.

I'd consider the 6600gt because of shader model 3 support, which will be used in next gen games, but that's something you'd have to look into yourself. Personally, I could see it being useful, but I could also see the 12 pipes/256bit bus making the x800gto a better choice.

either way, they're both great cards with good OCing potential

Is shader 3.0 support crucial for later on games? I'm talking like 6 months down the road since this is only a fairly temporary card.

Not really, there's only one game that I know uses it now and that's Far Cry.

Get the GTO, I was looking at those 2 cards (and the 6800gs) and I picked the GTO. I saw a review of the 256MB fireblade version ($30 more) and that showed it had 1.6ns samsung RAM that's clocked at 470MHz but rated by Samsung up to 600MHz. But that version has a 2 slot cooler and you might not be bothered with OCing. If you're only keeping this card for about 6 months though go for the X800 you linked to.

I wouldn't bother with the 6600gt from what i've read around the fourms it takes a performance hit from sm3? (correct me if i'm wrong)
The GTO seems like a better buy in this case especially if you overclock. If you really do need sm3 I would recommend spending about 60 bucks more and getting the 6800gs, much better card and alot faster than a 6600gt.

Right on, I have the exact same card, its an awsome OC' er got it up to 636/615 on the core/mem.

At stock, they're very similiar with trades in wins depending on games. But if you get the right GTO, it can oc and maybe unlock. This Saphire can't unlock, but I believe the 256 mb fireblade version can oc like crazy on both core and mem. Dunno about the 128mb version. I think the core can probabaly oc well, but not sure about the memory. 6600gt can oc too, but not as well as the right GTO.

The only advantage of the 6600gt is maybe price, tho. not in this case and sm3. Tho. the 6600 is probably too slow to really use it.

If its only a 6 month card, i think you'll get by with either just fine, but I'd lean towards the x800gto for now.

Oh, and no, SM3 boosts performance on the 6600gt as long as you dont add HDR and other stuff (displacement or parallax mapping, which i think the latter works on sm2, dont hurt performance as far as i know, yet...they're not widely used yet...)

The gto is a good deal faster at stock, and many gto's OC very well also. I wouldnt bother aout SM3 because in most games you only need SM3 to enable extra IQ features which do cause a performance hit, and the 6600gt will likely not handle the added stress well.

The fireblade is good, I have one and it OCs really high
I don't know how the 256 vs 128 would affect performace, But i would assume the 256 would be better? But if the 128 is the only one in your price range I would still get it over the 6600gt
I would be happy with both ;)

256mb Fireblade.
It is much faster than the GT and is one of the best overclocking cards you can buy.
