To maintain your current weight, you should consume 2850 calories per day.

According to the USDA, that number of calories should be broken down as follows:
USDA Daily RDI
Calories/Day Grams/Day
60% Carbohydrates 1710 428
10% Proteins 285 72
30% Fats 855 95

I kept track of calories for Monday- Friday (i estimated what I will eat tonight, and it will be close).

I'm averaging like 1900 calories a day. That puts me at 950 calories under per day.... and I dont think Im losing weight, then again only one week wouldnt say. (950x5=4750~1.3lb of fat?)

Anyway, first time actually keeping track of my caloric intake and I was suprised to see that difference.

It's probably just a very rough guesstimate, at best.

Uh wow. It's WAY off.

To maintain your current weight, you should consume 3108 calories per day.

Also 60% carbs is not healthy.

According to who? Atkins?

According to most effective, proven diets:

Atkins
South Beach
Body for Life

Ask any nutritionist or cardiologist worth their salt and they'll tell you that traditionally low-fat, high-carb diets are not as effective as once believed.

most of this calculators rely on 'lean body mass' now your current wieght.

To get this you only count your wieght which is not fat.

For example, say you are 175 with 20% bodyfat.....you should base your wieght on about 145lbs for figuring calories.

Most people also underestimate their bodyfat %....10lbs overweight maybe really 20-30lbs.

is quite right. I know of two guys recently who say things like "I want to lose about 10 pounds". Well I personally have lost 20 this year and it's not nearly as much as I thought it would be and I wasn't anywhere near them. THey really need to lose like 30+. People kid themselves about weight.

Your caloric levels are based on your age, activity level, weight, height, muscle mass, etc.

That thing just said I should consume 2828 and I have above average amount of lean mass. I also think that frankly that's probably a bit too high. I'm happier around 2500 or so (to maintain).

HGAHAA This is crazy. I'm male, 6'5", 240 lbs and moderately active, (I work out about twice a week).

It says: "To maintain your current weight, you should consume 3559 calories per day." HAHAHAHA Holy crap that would be a lot of food!

this calculator is based on a marathon webpage....long distance runners rely on more carbs and fats than protein and muscle mass.
