is this basically the same as benchpress?

Ok, the way my desk at work is configured, I can put my hands in two places, lift up my legs, then I can push myself up, if that makes sense. The way my arms push, it is almost like a benchpress, just at a different angle. So if I can lift my bodyweight, is that the same as if I could bench 200lbs? (my bodyweight).

If you're pushing Down, then it works some of the same muscles but not as much emphasis on the chest. Sounds like you're basically doing Dips?

And no it's not the same weight comparisson exactly either.

It's not a push up, because with a push up, most of your weight is supported by your feet. I am lifting my entire bodyweight.

I think "dips" would be an adequate term.

I don't undestand what body position you are using when doing this so called push up. And if you've never done much bench press before, I'm 95% certain you couldn't bench your own weight of 200 pounds.

Well I haven't benched for a bit and I'm in fairly good shape. I used to bench 30lbs over my bodyweight with no training whatsoever. I need to get into a gym but gym fees suck arse.

And as far as the position, imagine putting two tables next to each other, you standing inbetween them, then you put your hands palm down, one on each table. You then lift your legs and you are supporting your bodyweight. You then 'dip' yourself down and then push yourself back up, rinse and repeat 😉.

Regardless of whatever you're talking about, which isn't clear - you're pulling yourself as opposed to pushing weight.

No, I'm pushing straight down onto the surface to lift my bodyweight up.

ahhhhh so your doing dips. Doing dips != benching your own weight, but if you can do a good amount of those, then benching your own weight should be a problem.

Yep, I work on the phones doing tech support. The way it is is the desk has basically a cut out where the chair rolls into. It's cut in a way that I can put my hands on either side of the semi-circle and do these. Plus I'm way back in the corner.

I wish I was really dedicated. I'd get on the floor and do some crunches too.

cool you can get a workout while you work. becareful not to fall and bring your computer crashing to the floor.
