Is this artifacting? Is my card dying?

I have a PowerColor 9600XT (R96T-TC3) and this is what I saw after a fresh winXP install.

This started a couple days ago.

* card was never overclocked.
* card temp stays between 34 and 36 C
* no dust or fan blockage

Could it be a driver issue or a hardware issue.

I will be testing it out in another system later tonight.

TIA

So it didnt do it before the install? Your temps seem normal also. Try the most recent catalyst drivers. I'd also reinstall the card. The fan does spin, right? Was this all within the same few hrs that this happened? (u were in wndows, decided to format, formatted and artifacting occured). Does the artifacting get worse as the machine idles? Have u modded the card by putting another fan on it or anything at all? Cuz maybe the heatsink isnt firmly touching the core all around. Also u could try it in another comptuer and see what it does. It could be your motherboard even.

I saw that happen when I built my buddy's PC using a powercolor 9600 Pro... it went away after the first reboot and AFAIK never came back. card currently working fine in his system.
get the new drivers installed and see what happens. hopefully it goes away.

Ok guys here is a small update.

It started a few days ago under normal windows usage.

I decided to test it under a fresh install (format).

4.8 drivers caused windows to BSOD.

I then noticed new 4.10 drivers today. I installed them and so far so good for stability.

So far under windows I have not seen any artifacting like I did in the pic.

However, I get artifacting on the boot screen and sometimes in the BIOS.

I will continue with further stress testing and a card swap.

The card is 100% stock and the fan is working fine.

sounds like it may be a voltage delivery problem then.
since the card is artifacting in the BIOS even, but not crashing all the time on your desktop... I'd be raising the VIO in your BIOS if you have the option.

update:

3D is fine with no artifacting at all. I ran 3dmark2005 just to make sure.

2D is still giving me issues and I am starting to think its not my card but my MB.

Ok. It is the card. It finally went bonkers on me this morning.

I am using my old standby Matrox Mystique220 PCI card and I am having no problems at all.

The ATI when put into my other machine caused the same 2D issues and then locked up the whole system.

Time for RMA.

thanks guys.
