well, im selling my xbox in craigslist and got this email:

Good,
Thanks for your response,I will like to send the item to my boss
daughter at the university of lagos that is studying african culture as
herNew Year gift payment will be made through USPS money order and shipping
will be at my expense with my fedex account in which you will not pay a
dime for shipping kindly send me your full name ,address and the final
price so that i can proceed with the payment immediately.

also heres another one:

Hello ,
ok,i can buy it with that price,actually i am purchasing the item clientof mine , and my mode of payment is through Money Order ,and as for shipping i will handle that with my fedex account, so all i need you to do now is to get to me back with your full name and address so that i can proceed with the payment.hoping to hear from you
soonest.And if you can give me discount i want two piecies

now, if i do in fact get the Money order, all i have to do is cash it and im good right?
 
it will be a fake money order if you get one at all. however, i suppose you could ask for it first and try to cash it. wether or not you will be arrested/have to give a statment at the station is anybody's guess.

short answer: it's a scam, walk away
 
I suppose you could try to scam the scammer and several people have seem to... send them a package with nothing in it and have them pay the high import taxes.

edit: the bolded text is the dead giveaway. almost every scam i have seen uses the exact same tactic. i have yet to hear from somone that went through with a transaction as stated in those emails and has not been scammed.

anything that remotely looks like that is a scam 100%

i can't believe people still don't kniow when they are trying to be scammed.
 
My wife has had to deal with this stuff lately with a person who bought something from us on ebay.

My mother-in-law is a retired banker. Her advice was that if we wanted to give the buyer a chance, to tell them that we would accept money orders, but we wouldn't ship the goods until 14 business days after the money order was cashed. 14 days is apparently plenty of time for the bank to determine if it is fake or not.

Or you could go the route we took, and tell the buyer that you aren't interested in their business.
 
Is it just me or do all Nigerian scam emails have really screwed up comma usage. It's like you never know which side of the comma the space will be (if there is any).
