Is this an OK price for electrical work?

I need to get 12 high hats installed in my house. The electrician wants $75 each for the installation. I thought it would be cheaper but one person I spoke to said that was quite good.

How does this sound? This is in NYC btw.

Thats actually not a bad price... I just did a bunch of electrical work (myself) on my own house. At home depot, depending on the high hat size, it can run you about 35 bucks for the cans. the baffle is anywhere from 5-15 bucks as well.

The price I was quoted by 2 different electricians was 100 bucks per. I thought that was a little steep, since it's really simple to install these things. I'm in NJ, so the price is comparable geographically.

Hope that helps,

-Matt

So $75 each just for labor or for both labor and the lights? Sounds pretty steap if it's just for labor, especially if they're all in the same general area and there's already electrical running there.

Just labor. They would need to run new wiring and cut the holes out.

I bought the lights last year but never got them installed because my contractor took off :|

Have you considered "installing" them yourself, sans electrical? Shouldn't be very hard to do that portion yourself.

I did think about it but I don't really have the time, skills or tools to do this. I really don't want to go around punching bad holes in my ceiling.

Plus I have 2 little kids running around so I would get absolutely nothing done.
