Is this an illegal order? Trump orders USAID workers to shred and burn classified documents.

Can employees refuse to follow based on it being an illegal order like the military are not obligated to follow an illegal order from POTUS.
Legality is a term that doesn't mean jack shit when the gov can make up the rules as it goes.

In this era, doing the right thing should be easier than ever with portable digital storage / a sufficiently fast Internet connection.

Hopefully there are people in the government who saw this shit coming and did the deed already.

It would be amusing if in the first briefing after the Trump admin, someone stood up and said, "The Trump admin trashed all the historic government docs, but we took a backup beforehand so here they are all back again...".

Welcome to 1984, the destruction of history.

People ordered to delete data have been backing it up on personal devices.
The executive is really trying to make it so that it will be impossible to reconstruct the agency if impoundment is found to be illegal.

People voted for and are getting a group that cares nothing about obeying the law or faithfully executing their duties in line with the law and the Constitution.

Doncha know? Trump magically declassified all those documents by just thinking..."Those documents that I know nothing about are hereby declassified."

The concept of refusing to follow an illegal order, comes from a rules based society.
Which you know no longer exists.

In the American Empire, you do as the Emperor commands or there will be consequences.
