Is this AMD setup OK?

It has become time to build my sons another machine as last one would be better moved to a replacement f or wife’s office PC. It was never a good combination, extra cores would not unlock, memory failed (decent quality as well!) at least it is a nice case and a decent PSU, so can keep this.
This time I set my sons the task of selecting components, as at 13 and 15 I thought a little research would not be a bad task and to get them involved. They can be part of the build as well.
Anyway this is what they came up with, the questions is it a good combination as it is right at the top of my price range. Sadly over here in The UK, we can’t get the deals like you folks across the big pond and this lot comes to £450 ($685):
Processor £100
Mobo and graphics card £150 each approximately.
AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor
Asus Sabertooth 990FX AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
(how is this different from the R2.0 version)
One of the following:
Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Sapphire HD 7850 OC Edition 2GB Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
Asus HD 7850 DirectCU II V2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

All three come with Tomb Raider & Bioshock PC Games, which I expect might partly be the reason for the choice
The original case is already quite smart and last time I bought a decent PSU so that’s OK, will stick with decent quality memory although last paired memory failed!

So having added my own research and forum comments, the question is:
Are they likely to be a good match, and are there any other options that would be as good / better but at a better price (I suppose in reality there is only a possible saving on the MB.
My boys are unlikely to OC, well not for a couple of years, and reliability is important.
I realise that this is a bit like the “how long is a piece of string” question, but any feedback would be very much appreciated. What a great site by the way, glad I found it.

See if you can fit in a FX 8350 grab a 150 dollar mobo and 40 bucks ram. Your setup is good it will last for years. That 6 core is a very slow processor. Grab a FX 8350 for 200 dollars, 150 dollars for mobo and 40 dollars for ram. 150 for video card. Asus 7850 and your set.

It all looks good, but the Asus Sabertooth 990FX is overkill. Only buy that if you plan to do extreme overclocking and/or triple SLI/Crossfire. Any quality AMD 970 motherboard would be fine, but the Asus M5A97 and EVO (avoid LE) are very popular. I have an M5A97 myself, with a Phenom II X6 1045T overclocked from 2.7GHz to 3.7Ghz (with Hyper 212 Plus cooler). Overclocking is easy if you want, and the FX 6300 can overclock to 4GHz easily on the stock cooler (4.5GHz with better cooler).

Not all PSUs are created equal, so please let us know the make/model of the PSU you intend to use.

unless I missed it you do not mention hard drives . Try and get a solid state hard drive as the boot drive (ssd) this will make the computing experience feel much faster.
