I lost my windows media :Q
I have proof that I once owned this media, including my COA. Can I request a cd-r copy of this media in fs/ft forums?

[edit]changed wording in title[/edit]

I thought he was talking about the player at first too, but it seems that he "lost" the cd and is asking if he can get someone to send him a copy of their cd.

You can do it, but if you want to stay around on these forums, then don't do it. It sounds like you're asking to buy pirated software.

Technically, if he owns a legitimate license to the software, it is NOT pirated software....
Perhaps microsoft wouldnt like someone else making him a copy.... but he does own a license to the software, and noone owns the software, just the license and the media, so I dont know why it would bad for him to get a copy of the cd

While I understand your point, look at it. I have no reason to doubt what he's saying, but it sounds just like "I lost my GTA3 cd, can someone give me an iso of your's?" or "I lost my serial number for ____________ software, can I have your number?".

Neither of those questions are tolerated here, and this follows similar lines.

HOWEVER, after rereading....it says he has his COA (I read it first saying that he lost his cd AND the COA), and while it may be a different story, and I still don't know if it would be tolerated. So now, yes, I agree with you, zeruty, but I'm not sure they'd allow it here.

yeah, but i also stated that i can prove i once owned it by scanning my coa w/ serial number. i suggest you not jump to conclusions about this. This question was directed towards a mod, anyway.

I know. Like I said, I misread it the first time. But how does scanning a coa prove that you own it? I could say that this is my coa and that I therefore can get a copy replaced since that is supposedly my coa. However, that link took me 20 seconds to find on google along with some more images.

I am not doubting you, but it does seem that it's possible that you never owned it. In fact I believe that you own it, though I do think it's odd that you lost the cd and didn't make a copy yourself somehow or put it in a special place. The mods here don't like to take chances, so don't get your hopes up.

If this question was directed solely to a mod, then you could have PMed them. Otherwise, you open up your question to comments by those other than the mods.

i see where your comming from...

but there are other ways i can prove a certain picture is my picture also....

for example, taking a picture of it with me right next to it holding a sign up saying i'm zayened from anandtech....

Is it legal?

Perfectly.

Is it frowned on?

Yes.

It's simply too hard to prove you legitimately own the software.

A member of these forums once sent me a 95 OSR2 CD to replace the one I lost. I had the COA, but had misplaced the CD. My thread was locked, & both he and I were accused of software piracy.
