Is this a worthy RAM upgrade?

Hi folks,

I have an older ACER Aspire E380 machine, with 2 GB of DDR2 533 (PC2-4200)

( for more details, see here: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...919&CatId=2658 )

The motherboard has 4 paired RAM slots - and two of the matching slots (blue) have 1 GB of RAM each.

I came across some cheap DDR2 800 (PC2-6400) 2 GB sticks, and I'm wondering if it would be worth getting it ($20/stick) to upgrade my machine, while keeping in mind that

- I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 (NOT 62-bit)
- It's a single stick of RAM, and I have two empty matched slots available.

Thoughts?

I meant, is it worth it, considering the above caveats, and that I'm not playing video games on it, but I'm mainly doing video processing.

From what I gather, Windows Vista 32-bit will recognize the 4 GB of RAM as something like 3.2, anyway. I wonder if the performance of the machine will be improved or not.

Perhaps you should expand on your usage profile. Does your typical usage take you over 2GB or 3GB? Although Vista will make use of extra free RAM for caching, answering your question really depends on whether your apps would benefit from extra (1.2GB) RAM to save them from hitting the page file.
