I built a system for my brother using a K7S5A and Duron 1gig cpu running XP.
When new it had this problem occassionally but now its almost 100% of the time.
The problem: When booting its goes throgh the the bootup ok until you get to the XP bit where you have the dotted line progressing across the page, then the solid line. When the solid line gets to the end it just locks up. A hardware reset then fixes it and it boots fine.
Is this the well known K7S5a cold boot problem or a Windows XP problem? Can anyone give me any ideas on how to fix it please

Try the newest BIOS you can get.

See if this issue is fixed.

You may have to re-install winxp. You could try the repair function.

I agree with peter. When I was playing around with really agressive mem timings and fsb, It would freeze up at that point. I also read that a weak psu would do the same. Some people had sucess when they flashed to the latest bios also.

Let us know what you find!
Good Luck!
