Is This a Windows or K7S5A problem

I built a system for my brother using a K7S5A and Duron 1gig cpu running XP.
When new it had this problem occassionally but now its almost 100% of the time.
The problem: When booting its goes throgh the the bootup ok until you get to the XP bit where you have the dotted line progressing across the page, then the solid line. When the solid line gets to the end it just locks up. A hardware reset then fixes it and it boots fine.
Is this the well known K7S5a cold boot problem or a Windows XP problem? Can anyone give me any ideas on how to fix it please

this sounds like the cold boot, yes. what firmware do you have? the newer ones were supposed to have fixed it. head over to OC Workbench for fixes and tips from a forum i have grown to trust for my mobo (K7S5a). good luck!

do you happen o have a nvidia video card?
If so download the self installing video drivers from nvidia site..
That solve my problem with a solid thin line showing up on boot up and locking my pc.

The MS nvidia drivers suck...
