Hi i'm tryin to fix my friends computer but it is running extremely slow for 1.8ghz with 512 ram. I opened task manager and the explorer.exe file is using 99% which is like 140,000k. My comp at home usually runs at like 20 if that. I installed antivirus software but it is showing nothing. Does anybody know what this could be or a way that i could fix it. Thanks

From some of the potential fixes I've seen here is to update Explorer and make sure there is the latest updates, or at least SP1 for WinXP.

Another I saw was someone downloaded a program off some site, i.e. Gator, etc. Someone recommened to run Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search & Destory

Ad-Aware

SpyBot Search & Destroy
