Is this an E3 Venice?
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe...ProductCode=80699-5&affiliate=shopping

IIRC, the BP in the "ADA3000BPBOX" means its E3; correct?

So I hear rumors about how the E6's suck at OC-ing, yet I see no proof. I'm going to buy a Venice soon and would like some real info on this matter.

Ideally I want to take a 3200+ Venice and run it @ 2.6GHz or higher on air (thinking XP-90) with the ASRock AGP/PCIE mobo & 2x512MB Corsair 2-3-2 (XMS Pro) DDR 400. I figure it will be easier to do that with a 3200+ than a 3000+ since I don't have the uber RAM.

Thoughts?

just what ive heard from people that had them posting on the forums. most e3s will get you to 2.7

you are not very likely to get an E6 to run at 2.6ghz, some haven't been reaching 2.4ghz

I have one of the best possible week/stepping 3000+ E3 and mine will only hit 2.85ghz or so, so just over 2.7ghz is stable

"uber RAM"??

I'm doing it just fine with Corsair Value:) just use a divider

actually the 3000 tend to OC better than the 3200, regardless of the multi

also, if you want a good shot at 2.7ghz+, you would have the best luck with an Opteron 144/146

Apparently those are all gone now & the new ones are using a different (i.e. sucky OCing) core.

I ordered a 3200+ Venice from NewEgg on Friday in the hopes I would get a good E3 version, hope I get lucky.

2.6GHz-2.7GHz is fine with me--I'm just doing this as a spur of the moment upgrade since my mobo is fried and I wasn't planning on doing S939 at all in the first place. So I figure I want to get the best OC headroom possible.

I know the 3000+ OC's just as well, but I hear the stock multi on the 3200+ allows for a more optimal use of the divider.

i had a e6 3000+ that reached 2.6ghz @ 1.65v. mine ran hot even with a xp90 w/ as5 plus e6 cpus tend to have low max temps.

I have an E6 stepping that's overclocked to 2528.4Mhz @ 1.465V, idle/load temps are 34/47 on the stock cooler, and its over 12 hrs Prime95 stable, so not such a bad overclock.

What do you think?

You can still order E3 venice's I ordered one barely 2 weeks ago, made 25th week of 05.....made it up to 2.4 on stock volt before my mobo decided to whack out on me and have it's PCI-E slot fail....
