Is this a type of lens flare?

I was just trying to get a sunset shot and wasn't trying to achieve any kind of effect. Must have shot several thousands pictures by now and never caught something like this until now.

Lens flare is simply some internal elements of the lens becoming visible in the image to to reflection off the surface of one of the elements.

It is a flare and a unique one, I've never tried putting the sun dead-centre in a wide angle lens, cool shot.
