Is this a symptom of a bad power supply?

I just got the antec ks282 w/ 300W PS. Basically, all I did was swap cases. I switch the power on ... the fans turn on for half a second ... then everything goes dead. Nothing.
Either a MOBO or PS problem, right?
So I take another computer (in working order) set it right beside the dysfunctional Antec. I remove the power supply ribbon from the working case and plug it into the non-working case. I switch the power on ... it boots fine.
Obviously it looks like a faulty PS. But I want to make sure. The working case is a 250W PS. The ks282 is a 300W. The dysfunctional case has a aopen ax6bc ez mobo running a 633MHz Celeron. The entire dysfunctional system worked in my old 250W case.
I think I've convinced myself now that it's a bad PS. Should I call Antec and have them ship me a new PS or return the entire case (not so appealing)? How cool is Antec about faulty cases and is this rare for Antec to have bad PS. I thought Antec had a good reputation for PS.
Thanks.

*Oh yeah. Is it worth it to open up the PS case and trying to fix it myself .. or will I more likely electrocute myself?

I've opened up the PS case before, of course disconnect power first, make changes, then connect. If you're gonna trash it you might as well. It could be a learning experience. In my case I didn't learn to much since I'm not a transistor freak.

You state that basically you just switched cases?
Remove the M/B from the new case, set it on a cardboard box.
Hook up the P/S, video, and a floppy.
Boot it up.....if it works the M/B was incorrectly installed and
touching something it wasn't supposed to in the case......

dexmanone- I was gonna play with the PSU until I saw a label saying "Warranty void if label is removed ...."

GregMal- The dysfunctional computer boots if I use the PSU from the adjacent computer. Do you think it's still worth trying your suggestion?

If it is a new case, call the supplier and get a replacement psu. It should have a warranty. If you bust open the psu case you void that warranty. Any reasonable supplier honors their products warranty...

The power button may just be attached wrong to the motherboard...I have an asus k7v and when I filp the p/s switch on the motherboard gets juice for about 1/2 second then shuts off. I push the power button on the case and it works fine.

Hmm...try this.

Only hook up what is necessary.... No keyboard, mouse, cards, HD, etc

PS, MB, Case power switch. Try that...if problem still exists then one of three things may be toast: new-PS, New-Case switches, or you dammaged your MB while switching cases.

Take the old PS, and put it in new case...hook it up THE SAME WAY...if the PS Fan spins normally, you got a bad PS....if problem still exists, read on.

Now try putting your old MB and NEW-PS back into the old case...if it works, you got a bad power switch on the case. Still doesn't work...read on.

Swap the new-ps with the old....so now you have old-ps, old-case, MB. Don't work....congrats, you broke your motherboard....live and learn.

zepplin, after coming back to this thread, and a clear head, it's difinetly the PS. Just use the warranty. It's easy sometimes to read too much into things. If you system powered up fine with the other PS, with the "jump start", then that's your prob.

it's a power problem.

the only time it has happened to me was when i was making my fanbus several months ago. i had a short in the fanbus, and the same thing happened to me.

so all i can say, is check for a short, and THEN replace the PS.
