Is this a sign of a failing video card?

This problem has happened a few dozen times now and I am at a loss.

I have my monitors set to go to power save and shut off. I do not shut the computer down as my business phone comes through the network. When I move the mouse to wake up the monitors, they do not wake up. I can do nothing to get them to display again. The computer is still running and working as the phone is active. The only way I have found to fix, is to hit the power button and reboot the computer.

Is this a sign of a video card starting to go bad? It is a little long in the tooth, but I don't play a lot of games on the computer and it is adequate for what I need it to do.

I've had this exact same problem as well and it was not hardware related. Unfortunately I can't remember how I fixed it. It may have a driver problem.

So if it is not the card then the operating system? I have a copy of win 7 waiting to be installed. I guess I can speed up the time frame as to when I was going to do this and update the card's driver. I have not updated that in while as I saw no reason to as gaming is not what the computer is for.

What happens if you hit the monitor power button and turn it on and off directly? My LG has problems that it does not like to wake up, and I have to turn it on and off to get it going. That was on Vista, I have not tried using it on Win 7 yet.

I had this problem years ago with my Dell 2001FP monitor and Nvidia 6800GT. About 50% of the time when the monitor would go into power save, I couldn't get it to come out without turning monitor on and off and moving my mouse around a bunch. And sometimes even that wouldn't work and I'd have to reboot. Later I flashed the BIOS on the 6800GT to try and get better overclocks and I inadvertently fixed the problem that way.
