I go to dealer xxx for a Lexus RX450h and got a quote. Unfortunately they dont have the color I wanted but I found it in another dealer.

They sent me a bunch of nice emails, etc.

Would it be a scum bag move to forge the email and put a lower price in the "email offer" and try to get dealer yyy to match or go near it ?

Lets just say this is a febal attempt to commit fraud...
Do not do it again in ATG...

Might bite you in the ass if the quote is not reasonable and they try to verify.

Don't tell them they have the color you want, just tell them that the other dealer offered X, if you can beat them by Y then we have a deal, otherwise I'll just get it from the other dealer.

If the dealers are local or competitors to each other, this won't work. They all know each other's prices very well.

Also, it isn't hard for them to call the other dealer to verify the price.

I would just focus on negotiating the best deal for the car you want. Do some research and know exactly what the car is worth and work off of that.

They will call to verify the price, you'll get called out on stupid nonsense. Don't be an idiot.

Lying to a car salesman? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Exactly

The worst thing that can happen is they tell you that xxx is offering you a good deal and you should buy from them. If that happens you know you went too low. Also xxx can get the car from yyy if you would rather buy from xxx.

This is a matter of balls not immorality IMO. Haggling is a time honored tradition and as a buyer you should always start out low. Anybody that pays sticker is paying too much.

Car salespeople (on average) are some of the biggest liars and wastes of skin on the planet. They belong on the same ship with the telephone sanitizers, security guards, management consultants, frozen hairdressers and other middle men.

Once again they can always say no and they will rather than lose money. If they say yes they are still making money and you have done nothing wrong.

Cheating is cheating. Whether you're cheating a car salesman or your grandmother, its still cheating.
Cheating pisses me off.

Having dealers compete for your money is different from you forging an email. Yes to competition. No to forging. You won't get away with it anyways.

I will write up fake parts quotes for tires at the shop I work at, marking them 10-20% under what discount is selling them for, and then send my girlfriend to go buy them.

Might work, they've only ever called once to verify price, and we've done this 3-4 times.

If you're going to engage in fraudulent practices, please don't post about them here.

Pitting a dealer against a dealer is smart. What you describe sounds like a genuine crime. I'll go against he crowd here and say that I don't think that dealer will call the other one unless the price is really out of whack, but I still wouldn't do it. If they do call that other dealership it sure sounds illegal to me and they could probably take legal action against you (though i doubt they'd bother).
