I'm tryin to sell my laptop on here, and just got this email from a guy who PM'ed me and told me to email him since he doesn't check PM's often. Just got this as a reply...

"Hello,

I'm a UK citizen and i want to buy this item for my SON who is studying in college in Lagos , West Africa. How much are you selling the item including shipping and handling fees via USPS Global Express Mail EMS. Do you accept Western Union Money Transfer? Get back to me soon

Regards,

Dr. Akinwale."

If I get the money in my hand before shipping, via western union, then I should be OK right??

or BAAAD idea???

THANKS! 🙂

haha

how can i get scammed though if he sends me $$ via western union? i would have the cash in my hand first before sending anything....???

If you have CASH in hand... then ship it. Otherwise, forget it.

Edit: WU has been used by the scammers. You get an e-mail confirmation that the money is on the way, you ship, they cancel, you have nothing.

CASH - IN - HAND

Of course it's a scam, duh.

You could just string him along for the fun of it, ala p-p-p-powerbook if you have some free time to mess with a scammer.....

Bingo. He wants you to ship it BEFORE you get your money. You'll ship it off, and you'll never get the money because money was never sent to you.

LoL - yes, entertainment value is about all you will ever get out of the deal. Think about doing a P-p-p-powerbook II, the updates would be most entertaining.

As everyone else said, yes, this is a scam.

My solution has always been to just take a few seconds out of my day to email them and tell them to send the check, then go on about my business. The only way you will get back at the scammers is to make em work for nothing. Since I don't have time to do a whole powerbook, I just get back at them one ornate, difficult to forge, expensive to mail overseas cheque at a time 🙂. In this case, all they're going to do is forge a western union confirmation, but still.

Bill Gates fell for this recently. He was convinced to hand over $150 million to a warlord under the pretense of helping starving children.
