Hello!

Thank you for the replies. I am actively following it and looking at cars that meet my requirements and would get your approval!!

I have come across a 2008 Toyota Yaris (4 door sedan) that seems to be legitimate. The 2nd owner is selling it, and a VIN check report did not show any salvage/junk titles.

It has 95,000 miles and is priced at $5900 which is slightly lower than the KBB price for a good car...which is slightly concerning.

I plan to get it checked by an independent mechanic if the seller is agreeable to it, which they should be if they are legit.

Is this worth considering?

Thank you!
Cassie

They may be selling it just below KBB to get a quick sale. A dealer would give them less than half of that as a trade. If it checks out with the mechanic, it is probably fine.

Hello!

A quick update. I took a look at the 2008 Toyota Yaris Sedan Sand it seems ok cosmetically, apart from a crack on the windshield. It has 95,000 miles.

I am taking it to a mechanic near the seller's home tomorrow, to have it inspected.

It is a 2 owner car, i.e. the current owner is the second owner. A VIN check does not show any salvage, junk, etc. and the title seems clean.

Assuming the inspection is good, do you feel this is a good brand/year/model year to look at?

Thank you,
Cassie

I think you're on the right track. Personally, I would get a Maxima or Altima over a sub-campact like the Yaris purely for the extra room. But that may not be an issue for you.

The best advice I can give on pricing used cars is that once you settle on a particular make and model do some research on autotrader, ebay motors (closed listings) and craigslist and get a feel for what the asking price should be for that car, in that trim level. The blue book is not always accurate, or even close in some cases.

A Yaris will be reliable and very good on fuel, not a dynamic car however sounds like you just want an appliance.
