Is this a scam? How would it work?

Earnings statistic taken from Businessweek Online 6/17/04 represents the weekly average of 430,000 sellers, which accounted for more than 95% of 24 billion in gross sales.

the mini text at the bottom

EDIT: i'm not saying it's a scam...just that it's probably just like the infomercials where people are making 50K a week selling real estate on mondays

The key phrase is "gross sales".

Suppose I sell 100 computers at $1000 each in a year. I would have $100,000 of gross sales. Did I profit $100,000 that year? Am I wealthy? Heck no. We need more information than that.

Suppose each computer cost me $900 to buy the parts. Then I had a net profit of 100*(1000-900) = $10,000/year. That would make me quite poor and below the poverty line.

Suppose instead each computer cost me $1100 to buy the parts. Then I'd have a net loss of $10,000/year. I'd be losing money hand over fist.

Their numbers are gross sales average of $1019.68/week. If the parts cost you $1000/week, you'd have a profit of $19.68/week for your hard work. Think about it. Without knowing the cost of the items, you know nothing. Plus, I highly doubt that business is anywhere near the average of all EBay sellers.

yeap thanks for clearing that out for me, with your grammar skills I almost felt like its not worth it but out of curiousity that would be an
extra $10,000/year? + whatever you make in a current job... (since this is only online stuff of posting auctions I dont believe it requires that much work)

Think of it this way. If there was a sure fire, no-cost up front, easy money on eBay, why would they let anyone in on it?

um, last time I checked, there were 52 weeks in a year, not 47.073 weeks per year.

52 weeks * $1019.68 = $53,023.36 per year.

If this was a real business, that really worked and pays big money, why aren't they using it themselves?

eBay is happy to run auctions for businesses and has no problem accepting thousands of listings from them.

the people selling this miracle business could hire minimum-wage workers and keep the millions for themselves.

unless of course the main product is recruiting new suckers, that is it's a multi-level marketing scam despite their claim.

Sounds like Walmart and illegal aliens.

Yeah, they probably sell you the merchendise at a fixed price, knowing you won't make a profit trying to sell it on ebay.
