Is this a record Low Ball?

Conky

Lifer
I tried to sell an older videocard in the Anandtech FS/T forum and priced this specialty card(Obsidian X-24) at $50 shipped.

I received several fair offers and one that stood out and left me saying wtf! One rather new member from Germany offered me $20 shipped and then informed me that the shipping to Germany from the USA should be about $18, leaving me with $2 for the card not to mention my time to bring it over to the post office.

I really think this must be a record of some sort. 😀

I bet he wanted me to ship first too. 😛

And ANOTHER thing.... what is up with guys who expect you to ship something to them without them paying for it? My best friend doesn't ask me to do this, why should I send a stranger my stuff for free and then he can pay for it at his leisure? These guys are a riot. I have real and legitimate references but if I don't play play on their heatware site I am considered an outcast? Mmkay.

When did heatware become the only verified trading certification over actual anandtech trades at anandtech.com?

If you have 0 heatware and I have a few, shouldn't you ship first? Isn't that pretty much standard?

No, not if I have ACTUAL VERIFIABLE references. No wonder people prefer Ebay. I wouldn't ship to you without paying unless your first name was Anand.
😛

because heatware is more closely monitored than ebay references. This situation is just part of the trading community. You gotta start somewhere. And what type/kind of verifiable references do you have? Are they easily traceable/checkable?

If you've had trades here, why didn't you use heatware? Again, heat is ran by people of the anandtech community, among other fora.

Let's turn this around. Why would anyone who has a ton of heat send you money first when you have no/next to no heat so you can send it at your leisure? Those people with heat are the experienced traders, not you. They paid their dues when starting out just like everyone else did.

I have anandtech references and people who will email you and tell you how I did on a transaction. And many have offered to heatware me... I have only recently started yet another account there. (how long will this heatware server last?)

Heatware has gone up and down and been redone so many times over the last few years... why should that be my yardstick? Wouldn't you prefer to talk to people who have actually done business with me rather than deal with a website where everybody has 100% positive feedback? I had some dork tell me he had 179-0-0 and that since I didn't have heatware I was forced to ship to him without payment first. Yeah, right, go to hell obnoxious trader kid. You want my stuff, you pay... if it ain't what you thought it would be then I give you your money back. This is how serious people trade.

Exactly! You are by no means OBLIGATED to send your items first and I totally understand you being uneasy about sending items before receiving a payment. But as prvteye2003 pointed out, things are a bit different here from eBay and Heatware is what makes buying/selling here much more secure. Bottom line, it will be up to the seller and buyer to work out terms they're both comfortable with.

Can you please explain how heatware changing servers and going through a redesign has anything to do with this? I've had deals dating back since 2000 and others have older ones. As long as they are still there as a reference point, it honestly doesn't matter what they do occationally. These forums and the webpage have undergone a transformation or two, so lets all stop using anandtech!

Chalk up another use to the DNT list. It's people with piss poor attitudes like these who i'd rather just not deal with. If they can't respect the community and the way we do things, then no point in talking to them.

How the hell is someone supposed to tell you're a "serious person" and that that's how you trade? Sure, YOU may know that, and I may know that I'M not gonna rip anyone off, but how do other people know that? And no offense mate, but it's the easiest thing in the world to sign up for an e-mail account and send 'praise' about dealing with yourself. I'd prefer to go by a site which is semi-monitored, like Heatware, hell even eBay, rather than taking testimonials via e-mail which are easy to spoof. And yeah, it's possible to do the same thing with Heatware, but if you check up on the users who submitted evals and they're all at little to no Heat, warning flags start up. Can't do that with e-mail.
