after hours of researching about different computer components and parts for my new Pc i will be building, i have came up with these specs

please tell me if i am getting ripped off on a certain part, or if there is a better deal on a newer part.

sorry if i'm being a little needy, but this will be my first computer i have custom built. lol

and, for a frame of reference as to the performance i want, i will be playing: CO MW2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Crysis (on medium-low settings). all with as highest settings as possible for under $850

My Specs:

HD

http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/3634...nal-hard-drive

$60

CPU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tel-_-19115215

$194

Motherboard

http://www.amazon.com/LGA1156-4DDR3-.../dp/B002XDQC4K

$140

RAM

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...es)-_-20145260

$100 ($0 if salvageable from other PCs)

Power supply

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...air-_-17139005

$89 ($0 if salvageable from old computer)

Blu ray drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=3332167&SID=

$59 ($0 if salvageable from computer [DVD/CD]

Case

Alienware Predator 2.0 Black

$170

Graphics Card

Nvidia Geforce GTX 460

$230 (when it comes out)

Total= $1032..... i need it to be under $850-$900

if i swap out the fancy Alienware Case with a $60 Cooler Master, i can lose $110 from the total, but the AW case looks soooo cool and i'd only like to get rid of it if it's absolutely necessary.

i also have a family computer that we only use veryyyyyy rarely (we hate it) and i bet i could persuade my family to let me salvage some parts from it for my little project.

its a Dell Inspiron 531 2007-2008

it has:

4GB RAM (DDR3, i think) -$100

DVD drive (Blu Ray isn't necessary to me, but it'd be nice) -$59

500GB HD -$40

Some low end Nvidia Card (forgot what its called). i could use it as a secondary card though + Free Graphics boost

Power Supply (it doesn't say what type it is, but i'm afraid it's not powerful enough. i'll need about 650Watts) -$100 (pending)

Dell 20" Monitor... always useful for dual monitors with my MacBook Pro screen.

$1032-$300= $732 if i can get those parts. $622 if i swat cases...

your guys' jobs are to find out if i can get an even better price on the parts that i cannot salvage from the Dell computer (processor, motherboard, GPU etc.)

Thanks for all the help!!! =)

i can't wait to start building it....

i've thought about doing this for several months now, but now i'm finally taking the first step.

would you recommend that i order all the parts at once, or do i start with the Case, motherboard and processor etc., put that together, and then order the rest of the stuff?

Thanks again

EDIT: i'm willing to go with AMD and ATI if it's cheaper, but i prefer the quality of Intel and Nvidia

EDIT: i have yet to find a PC case that i like other than the Predator Case. i like the glowing grille thing at the bottom of the tower. i want my friend's jaws to drop when i show off this PC to them (they're all Xbox 360 fanboys. only one is a PC gamer). so far, i haven't seen a case thats cooler than the Predator case

if you can find a case thats very very similar to this one or a cheaper price on a Predator that would be great. black or silver, doesn't matter. preferably new or refurbished. cheapest i found was $120 for new (+$40 shipping)

most of your links don't work. Besides we don't need them...just post the part you are using.

I'd learn to use the internet first.

We don't need hunt down your parts via linkage.
Just post a simple list of your components.

BTW, I wouldn't use a PS salvaged from an old computer, unless by "old computer" you mean 1-2 years old.
And even then I'd really have to be impressed with the PS quality to use it.

Fill out the stickied guidelines

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Gaming (mostly GTA IV, Oblivion, and MW2), Internet surfing

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$700

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Intel Fanboy, Nvidia Fanboy, Samsung Fanboy (willing to go whichever is cheaper though)

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

500GB HD, Monitor, 4GB RAM, Video card (using as a secondary card), power supply (depending on wattage)

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Yes, i've spends hours and hours researching and reading threads

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Yes, i'll have plenty of fans on my system

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1920x1200

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

as soon as i find and order all the parts i need.

Is the RAM you're planning on reusing DDR2 or DDR3? DDR2 is all but dead for the current sockets. You can still reuse it on the 775 and the AM2/AM2+/AM3 sockets, however. Just looking at the prices from your initial links, I assume you were targeting the i5 750 and a 1156 motherboard. DDR2 does not work on that platform.

That said, this is my recommended build:

i5 750 (unless you have a microcenter or fry's near your home)

Gigabyte ga-p55a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128412

G.Skill 4gb DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231193

XFX 5850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-494-_-Product

Boot that Alienware case, they're a ripoff. You can buy an open box motherboard if you really want to save cash; I've never had an issue with open box stuff from newegg.

Better off with AMD, IMO. What brand is the PSU and how old? Is that DDR2 or DDR3?

If it's DDR2, you should go for a DDR2 compat motherboard paired with a Propus 630, and toss on a 5850 if it'll fit in your budget. Pair it up with an Antec 300 and Hyper 212+ and you should be good to go. Don't expect sky-high overclocks though. The quad should still perform beautifully partnered with a 5850.

If you want to get Intel, you COULD get a 5770 instead, but you might run into some slower FPS @ that resolution. You don't need more fans than necessary, and you certainly don't need Deltas or Panaflos. The fans that come with what you order should be more than enough.

I agree with Donut in the sense that AMD offers more bang for the buck. Though Intel CPUs are superior in many ways, their price can be rather high. Tack on the overall cost of the platform, and you're looking at a big chunk of change. Further, since you're a gamer, putting more into your GPU will pay big dividends.

the RAM is DDR2, i think (sigh). we upgraded from 1GB DDR2. back in the day, it was a top of the line Dell machine.

i'm gonna have to buy some RAM too

i'll go with a 5850 too.
