I'm unsure how a hack is manifested other than something like through a Trojan virus, keylogger, or some kind of malware. There's something that happens to me now and then and it's a concern. I'll be on a webpage, viewing a video, and I suddenly loose my Internet connection. I have a wired ethernet connection. Once dropped, it doesn't reconnect on its own. From the modem I pull out the phone cable connecting me to the outside line, wait about 10 minutes, put the jack back into the modem, and then it reconnects with a new IP address assigned. I realize I have a dynamic IP address that changes now and then, but I've seen my IP address change periodically without this kind of disruption. This does not happen frequently, but it's suspicious to me.
The modem does have a firewall, but I'm not sure if a hack attempt would be stopped by it.
