Is this a possible hack attempt?

I'm unsure how a hack is manifested other than something like through a Trojan virus, keylogger, or some kind of malware. There's something that happens to me now and then and it's a concern. I'll be on a webpage, viewing a video, and I suddenly loose my Internet connection. I have a wired ethernet connection. Once dropped, it doesn't reconnect on its own. From the modem I pull out the phone cable connecting me to the outside line, wait about 10 minutes, put the jack back into the modem, and then it reconnects with a new IP address assigned. I realize I have a dynamic IP address that changes now and then, but I've seen my IP address change periodically without this kind of disruption. This does not happen frequently, but it's suspicious to me.

The modem does have a firewall, but I'm not sure if a hack attempt would be stopped by it.

When this happens do you see any messages in event viewer? I had an issue where I could not connect periodically and I saw some (to me) obscure errors. Eventually a driver update fixed it.

No messages, and I've checked using CMD.exe ("netstat -ano") to see if there's a program of some kind that has an established connection when this happens, but there's only programs that are "listening," and nothing appears to be unaccounted for or unknown. I've also scanned with both Malwarebytes and Avast and found nothing.

Sounds more like a modem issue.
That is exactly what was going on when I had a DSL modem that started to do that.
What modem is this?

I don't have the system log for the modem for the time period this disruption last happened. But are you guys saying that a hack attempt is NOT manifested by this type of disruption (read first post again)?
