Is this a possibility in the future?

Do you guys think that some time in the future cars will come with a built in breathalizer that wont let you drive if you fail the test? I think this would be a great idea.

Ive already seen that on tv, but apparently you have to be a pretty bad offender before theyll force you to do so.

i don't think it is a great idea. i would have to pay for it, but i don't drink. so i don't need them in my cars.

bad idea

optional, sure, whatever if you need it. i don't need it, don't make me pay for other people being dumb

i see where your coming from, but alot of people die from drunk drivers when they are just like you. I bet you would think differently if you lost a loved one to a drunk driver.

My friend got a DUI and was court ordered to have ignition airlock installed onto his car. He has to pay $60 a month and the thing is annoying as fuck. Every five minutes you have to blow in it or it will shut his car down. Good thing is tho that someone tried to steal his car and disconnected it and couldnt get the car to start. So my friend has a broken window but he has the ignition airlock to thank for still having a car.

if i never drink, how would having one in my cars benefit anyone? ever?

no , it makes no sense

I was thinking of one that you just had to pass the test once to put the car into drive or something.

Not if the drinking and driving related accidents and deaths keeps going down. Its funny this was brought up because I just saw on the news that here in California, the drunk related crashes and deaths were down over 50% from last year! 😱

So getting in the car and killing someone else while you're drunk is any better?

Dude..he brings up a point though..when should the ability to drive be taken away from you...drunk driving should be solved in other ways. Anyway..it may be a possibility in the future....

The ability to drive should be taken away from you when you are drunk. It is illegal to drive while drunk anyway, so you shouldnt be doing it at all.

The ACLU would fight to the death to prevent such a thing being in every vehicle.

ANd, like they said above.. it already exists.

And all cars should have governors that prevent you from speeding. It is illegal to speed anyway, so you shouldn't be doing it at all.

i read last week (can't find the link) in the news that some guy used compressed air or something of the sort to bypass his breathalyzer. he got caught drunk driving again 😛

Im talking about coming stock, so everyone has to take the test.

As stated by FoBoT - he doesn't drink, so why should he have to pay for it? A lot of people are in the same category.
If it's stock, you pay for it.
