Is this a normal temp for this set up?

I have an AXIA week 10 1GHz thunderbird on an MSI K7 turbo mobo with a cooler master EP5-6I11. The processor is running at 1333 on a 133 fsb. The temp is at 62c under load and 55c idle. I am using the lates bios and have removed the thermal pad from the heatsink and am using white thermal goop from Radio Shack. Isn't that high? Any suggestions?

doesn't it suck when people don't respond to your posts?...i hate that. you forgot to mention your room temp...that's pretty hot if you're in normal room temp...but keep in mind you're overclocking pretty heavy...as far as the thermal paste...i think it was extremeoverclockers.com or whoever did a test and the generic goop was generally at least 1-2 degrees off arctic silvers...not that big. Try applying less thermal paste...and add more case fans.

That seems high to me. Get some AS II and it will probably lower the temp a few degrees.

Thanks for the reply. My room temp is normal around 22c. I am using a very thin layer of the goop. I wiill get some AS2 but that would only lower temps by maybe 2 or 3 deg. I am running at 51c with no overclock, at idle, with the side of the case off.

a)the k7t-turbo reads higher than other MB's. Not wrong, but higher due to better thermistor contact and placement.

b)your heatsink is a decent cooler. But it isn't really in hte top-tier performance level. But it is also probably a good cooler for the noise level, and will likely keep your CPU well within AMD recommended max temps.

Probably not unusual.

I have a 1200/266 on the same MB. Initially, I ordered a VolcanoII (best cooler from the site I ordered CPU from). I was running in the high 50's to low 60's (when the room was cool).

Changed to a WBK38, got things down to the high 40's, low 50's (w/delta 38 and ASII). Room was still cool.

Couldn't handle the delta38 whine, put the fan from the VII on - temps rose a couple degrees.

Then summer came to NJ - room is now >5C warmer. Temps were hitting mid-high 50's again. So, I just put in a Swiftech MC462 with the delta 80mm. It peaks at 45C after a couple hours of heavy load, but its noisy. When summer is done, I'll be putting a Sunon 80mm high-output on the swifty.

When comparing my temps with others around the web, I have to conclude that the MSI board reads temp at least 4-5C higher than others. So, you probably shouldnt worry, but you can do better.
