Is this a motherboard problem?

I am having problems with ME when I go into standby mode. When I come out of standby the OS is sluggish at best and some programs will load but not appear on the screen.

When using my modem connection the same thing happens and I always notice that winmgmt.exe is loaded when this is happening.

When I reboot in ME the bios will sometimes stop with a message that the CD-rom is not found.

Occasionally when I come out of standby in win2k I will get a cd-rom eject icon on the taskbar.

I rarely use my CD but if the computer boots normally I have never had any problems. I think last year put in a new cd and still had problems. I have a p3 800 with a gigabyte ga6vx7-4x mb that has apollo pro 133a. MB bios upgrades have not helped either. Any suggestions appreciated. thank you

Maybe you should try reinstalling the OS if its not a big deal to you. If it still keeps happening I'd say you unplug all "unecessary" devices, like SCSI and sound cards, net cards, modems and stuff like that and boot it and see if it works as it should. If it does than you're having a problem with one of those devices, probably some IRQ conflict or something, but if problem persists then it could be the mobo.

Sounds like your went into sleep mode and isn't recovering well. Simple to check - just reboot and see if HD is normal.

Were I you, I'd go into your bios and turn Power Management OFF. Your monitor will still 'sleep' after specified interval, but your disk won't. The problem will go away.

Maybe it needs coffee 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ever since I got this PC its had problems. I think they improved some when I upgraded the bios. It has a Gigabyte ga-6vx7-4x now, I was looking at an asus or intel board with the intel 815ep chipset to replace it. I am not a smartie with puters but I can fiddle with them a bit and I have never been able to figure this thing out.
