Is this a mislabled PNY 256mb stick of ram?

I have a 128mb pc100 stick on my machine.
I bought a PNY 256mb pc133 and installed it.
When I boot, it only says I have 256 total.
I took the 128 stick and put the 256 stick by itself and it says I only have 128mb.
I tried putting the 256 stick in all 3 slots individually and it still says it's only 128.

I put the 256mb stick in another (older) machine I have and it won't even post.

I know for a fact the main pc I was trying to put this 256 stick in supports this size and speed because it has worked with a 256mb pc133 Crucial brand memory stick (which I sold to a friend).

Could this simply be a 128mb stick MISLABELED as a 256?

Btw, the dimm only has black memory chips on one side.

I went to pny's website and went thru their 'configurator' to see what ram is compatible with my system. According to them, my Abit BH6 mobo only supports a stick up to 256mb pc100. Shouldn't the stick still be detected as 256mb running at pc100? That's what I thought would happen anyway :ugh:

Acording to
Crucial, my Abit BH6 mobo supports 256/pc133...

Does the new stick have chips only on one side? If so, it's high density memory and that's why you're only seeing 128MB. Try to exchange it for a DS DIMM.

EDIT: I saw your edit. That's your problem.

Cheers!

Either of the first two will do. Both are regular DIMMs, the first being CL3, the second CL2 which is why there is the price difference.

Anyway, both are cheaper direct from Crucial.
