I guess my brothers MIL was having problem with netflix and went to roku and got link there. The person took control of her computer.

Looks legit.

If you're good at computers, do I what I do for my aunt. Use Teamviewer and fix the problem remotly. This works so long as their Internet connection works. Once I had to have my aunt run ADwcleaner so I could get into her infested machine. Junkwareremoval tool works good too.

If you go through a reputable service & support group then yes, it's fine.

Eg if she called netflix/roku support and the tech asked for her to login, she's probably good.

The problem is that people often get calls telling them that there is some computer problem and that they need to go to that website and give control. Once they get control they lock them out of their files and force a ransom.

This is a common issue over on the Roku forums. For reference, she didn't go to "Roku" she gambled and lost googling Roku Support. I'm betting she got billed for it too.

The site might be legit, but the person sending the service invite probably was not, and IS NOT an employee of Roku.
