Hmmm, not so much. I have a Kuro, and let me tell you, if there was a better set, I'd be all over it. But I'd still have a problem paying $7K for a rear projection TV. That thing better produce a hologram in order for me to pass up a flat panel.
If they priced it at something like $3000-3500, NOW we're talking.
After reading some of the reviews and comments it looks like it does have a great picture, but still has all the faults a standard DLP set has. $7k on a set with limited viewing angles is a bit much. In the current TV market where thin is in, this set needs to be much cheaper than its competition for the public to jump on it.
The HD Guru likes it. I generally like his reviews, but he really needs to get a proof reader. The problem I have with that avsforum thread, is that no one in it seems to have seen it.
I think the price & size will be it's major obstacle. HD Guru says the viewing angles are on par with an LCD set, so I don't see that being an issue. At 10" thick and priced at 7k, the Kuro will be it's main competition.
I think it will fail, because bigdog is correct. Thin is in.
I still think it'll succeed where it's meant to, that being the high-end. People will buy it because they want the absolute best in image, color and contrast reproduction. And the fact is that hardly anyone has seen one yet so we just have to wait for real reviews to come in.
I can't wait to check one out though...I wonder if my old store in Birmingham, MI will have one. I'm pretty sure they're still a Mitsu dealer even though we haven't carried anything in years.
