Is this a joke?

Killer NIC
I saw this advertised in my latest issue of Maximum PC and for a minute, I thought it was one of those fake ads that PCXL used to put in their magazines as a joke. But then I went to the website and I can't tell if it's fake or not!

$279.99!

Don't you love our non-working search 🙂 I tried a search for killernic and even killer and nothing came up.

Yeah, pretty frustrating.

Yeah, I saw that in MaximumPC too. I genuinely didn't know what to think.

It's obviously an ePenis++ tool... but who's that desperate that they're using ping times for that kind of thing?

Well, I guess the industry need something. CPUs are boring, sound cards are boring, wifi is boring. Lets make a kickass NIC! Whats next? A Super Killer Modem?

meh waste of cash IMO. I can live with my onboard gigabit that gives me average pings of 20-50 🙂

Ping Throttle
When other gamers complain that your Ping is too low, adjust it a little higher until they stop whining. Then, dial it back down and go in for the kill!
whatever...

Ya, I have had <10ms pings quite often and I have never had anyone complain that it is too low...

Meh, I don't see this having any real effect on anything, even if it is real. If you have bad ping times in LAN games, learn2network. If you have bad ping online, guess what? Your nic isn't going to fix that.

The product looks perfectly legit but the price must be a joke. All it sounds like to me is something to offload network traffic to a separate processor (which has been done with almost every NIC for the past what...5 years?) PingThrottle sounds really useless. GameFirst is QoS. Both useful features are already in the latest nForce 5 series. QoS has been around for ages too and it only helps if you're doing other stuff while gaming.

Well since people actually bought the original Das Keyboard (a $20. KeyTronic kbd for $80. bucks), then who knows.

You have a source that sells new clicky keyboards for $20? Mind sharing?

your gigabyte is not responsible for your ping times. Your internet connection at the source is responsible.

Aluvus,
. Original post edited for more clarity. Clicky kbds are hard to find. Have you tried some of those X-switch, notebook type keyboards? Would that be a reasonable feel for you?

I'm aware of that considering the WAN connection to the modem is only 10Mbit. Certainly nice when transferring large amounts of stuff at LAN parties tho 😀
