Before I recommend a new hd for my brother-in-law I just want to run the symptoms by you. It's a 5 year old HP Pavillion, 500 Mhz AMD running Windows 2000 Pro.
Yesterday he got a "no operating system found" error on bootup. It will post but hangs there.
When he tried to reinstall Win 2000 he got a I/O 0000100 (I think that's the code). Today I took over Win 2000 boot floppies and tried to boot from that but still got the I/O message.
Before I run out and get a new hd, any second opinions?
Thanks
Gary

seriously, it should try to install it from the boot disks i think, what do you mean you get the same error message when doing this? does it install windows and then give the error when you reboot?

Try using a different ata cable first. Then try another power molex connector, on a completely seperate line. Then try on the other ide connection on the board. Those are some easy things you can check. Do you know if your PSU voltages are good? If it isn't getting enough power, that could be a problem. Other than that, I don't think it's worth the extra trouble. Just buy another hdd.

It gets to the end of the point where it is copying files and then won't proceed beyond that.
