Is this a guaranteed VR-ready rig?

Hi guys,

I want to buy a PC rig that will guarantee me support for the first generation of VR - predominantly HTC vive, though it's possible I will obtain the Oculus further down the line.

From what I can tell, there's no official spec released yet from HTC, though I read that it will be more-or-less similar to the Oculus requirements (?). I also want to build a PC that will give me some kind of future-proofing, at least for the next 3-5 years. This is what I'm thinking of getting:

MOBO: Asus Maximus 8 Hero
PROC: 17 6700 locked (I understand that there are not dramatic gains in overclocking the CPU ? - also I'm nervous of doing it)
GPU: Nvidea Geforce GTX 980 ti
MEMORY: Ripjaw DDR4 2 x 8gb 3200 mhz
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo (Sata 3) 1 TB
PSU: Corsair AX860w modular 80 plus platinum
CASE: Corsair 450 D

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this rig... also, will it be necessary to invest in some extra cooling or only if I overclock the GPU & RAM? This set up will cost me around 1340 in euros (without the graphics card included).

Thanks!

The thing about the i7 6700K is that its stock clock is 4GHz. Also, the stock cooler on the new i5/i7s isn't that good.

I'd recommend spending a little less on the PSU - although it's hard to be specific without [thread=80121]more details[/thread] - and putting that money toward the 6700k and a decent tower cooler like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Also, if you don't wan to OC the CPU, I'd avoid over-volted RAM too. I'd look for 1.2V DDR4-2800 instead.

Just to be clear, 6700K does not come with a cooler, and the included cooler for the 65W 6700 should be fine, imo.
