Is this a ground loop?

My gas fireplace has a fan that blows hot air to help heat the room. When this fan comes on or goes off, I get a POP through the speakers on my stereo.

What can I do to stop this noise?

Put your stereo on a filtering UPS.

I have a similar problem... Desk lamp makes speakers make a popping noise when turning it off. They are both plugged into my UPS.

Try plugging the lamp into a wall outlet and switching it on and off. Still pop?

I think the stereo is already on a filtering powerbar (Monster <cringe> I think...) Not at home so I can't check.

Yes, I tried that 🙁 And vice versa.

Edit: It isn't as loud, but it still does it.

I dunno then, maybe it's an interference that's not on the line, but in the air (electro-magnetic?). I know that my desk fan makes my speakers pop when going from HI to OFF. Also makes my CRT picture vibrate if it gets too close.

Now that I think about it, I also sometimes hear the same popping noise when there's a large close-by lightning strike.

Is the UPS passive or active? (Does it draw its power from backup or does it simply filter line power while storing backup power?)

Is there simpler contraption that you rig up that can help filter out the interference to the speakers? My speakers always makes this sound when my cell phone is around.

Are you talking about a popping noise or a lawn-sprinkler type noise? (tst-tst-tst-tst-tst-tst-tst-tst-tst)
