Average gamer, Flight Sims and FPS's. Win ME on Athlon 800/192 ram-pc133. Likes to play 1024x32. No on-line play.
Would you trade a Hercules GeForceMX for a Voodoo5500?

In that scenario, yea that is good trade I think. But the V5 has like no support. So that is factor, but I believe that would still be a good trade.

I think even framerates is faster for MX only in Q3. In general v5 is superior card, no doubt about that. Go for it, sounds like a nice trade (for You, anyway).

The price is the same for both cards. So either way you don't win or lose. The trade is fair but the Geforce has a better support

Voodoo5500 is faster. It looks better. All my games are compatible. The final edition drivers for ME-2K are STABLE, and it can use DX8a (some)
New releases will not "tax" the card, or my "ancient" 800 Athlon for 12-18 months. Ummmm....
The GeforceMX is better supported. Driver updates and OC can squeeze even more performance out of what already is the fastest clocked GeforceMX.
It also will play most new releases (at least the one's I want) for 12-18 months.
The Herc. works...why yank it out?
The Voodoo will be effective as long as the Herc. AND look better.....
Ummmmmm...
In 12-18 months, I will probably be looking for an Ultra or Radeon64 anyway...
What to do, what to do.

I would keep your MX, seeing as you are an "average gamer"...I am, too, but I have a Radeon LE tweaked past retail. Cheaper than both cards you're looking at, faster, and prettier:)...OK, i'm biased, but so what?

Keep the MX. It'll serve you fine.

Ah, The ATi card.
I know them, spent time in "little driver Hell" (AIW card)
Getting your LE "tweaked" is from all I have read; a lottery.
No Thanks.

What are y'all talkin' 'bout?!? The Voodoo5 blows the doors off a crummy GeForce2 MX especially at higher resolutions (1024x768 and up)!!!

Yeah, Lucifer, that's what I was thinking. Plus I noticed there are Voodoo drivers on Nvidia's web site so I wouldn't be worried about a lack of support.

Yep, I'd say that you'll be a happier camper in Sim's(FSAA) and FPS's(1024x768+) with the Voodoo5;). As for drivers, do a search in these forums and you'll find plenty of sites with drivers for it, too:).

I would keep the MX. 3Dfx went out of business for a reason. EVen thought the 5500 debuted at 299 and the MX at 150. SO it was made to be superior but now they cost the same. If you are an average gamer you won't notice the improvements in FSAA.

Obviously this guy hasn't seen one in action. I've owned both and the Voodoo5's FSAA in simply untouchable. Not even close.
And if you use FSAA, the V5 is a lot faster. Yes, faster. MUCH faster.
The MX just can't do FSAA more than 1.5x at best.
