Is this a good server?

Whether or not that server will suit your needs, we have no idea, since you never told us your planned uses for it. It's definitely a good deal, though. If I were in the market for a server, I would be ordering one right now.

An Intel Xeon 5110 is only a dual core processor and costs about $200. So it's a free upgrade to only 4 cores. Don't know where you thought it was 8. 1GB RAM isn't a lot for a server. It has a single 80GB 7200RPM SATA-II hard drive. No optical drive?

You might be better off getting a Q6600 and tossing 2GB DDR2-667 in it. You'd probably be able to get a 500GB HDD without a problem too.

QFT... Unless the other upgrade options weren't discontinued at the time.

The 5310 is 1.6GHz, the Q6600 is 2.4GHz. But there are no dual-CPU 775 motherboards yet AFAIK, so the Q6600 isn't even an option.

1. It's not 8 cores. A pair of 5110 Xeons is 4 cores. That server only has capability for dual processors. Stop thinking it's 8 cores.
2. A Q6600 is 4 cores and 800MHz faster than the Xeon 5110. That's going to be better for running a server with a SQL database.
