6600GT is definitely the way to go. As for alternatives, i think XFX has one for like $180, and it's got dual DVI which is nice. I have the PCIe version and i like it a lot. Also, XFX clocks their memory to 1GHz, rather than the 900MHz that the reference design calls for.

Yeah, for $250 you can get a BFG 6800OC at Outpost. I would have done that had I known about the deal there.

Unless you're actually going to shell out the money and the deskspace for two LCD panels, what the heck good is two DVI outputs? I'd say 99% of computer owners will NEVER setup two LCD panels, so frankly I think it's the most over-rated useless feature of the XFX card. Give me a good overclocked lifetime garaunteed BFG card over a useless dual-DVI output XFX card anyday!

awe, i love my dual LCD setup. Many people actually have dual digital displays but are forced to use analog for their second display :(

The BFG 6800OC would definitely be the way to go. I did not realize you could get it so cheap.

Off the top of my head, no, no links, but I can tell you the "realworld" differance between a 6600GT and a 6800.

They will both run low-res stuff fairly close in performance... however, the 6800 will start pulling away significantly if you either:
A) Run the system in a hi-res mode
B) Turn up the AA and AS filtering

In no case that I've seen will the 6600GT surpass the 6800... usually they are either neck and neck (at low res) or the 6800 will pull away from the 6600GT in the above listed cases.

Neither is a bad card, but if the price differance is only $30 bucks, the 6800 is a no-brainer (and the above examples is stock card comparison... the differance is even greater if you unlock the 6800 with RivaTuner).

Tiamat... I know ON THIS FORUM, there are probably a few folks with dual LCD's... but if you look at the overall number of computer users worldwide, and compare that with those that have LCDs over CRTs (a low percentage to begin with) and then further divide that by folks who have DUAL LCD's, it becomes a fairly silly low percentage that XFX caters to and makes all these great claims about dual DVI support to all 12 people in the world who actually have dual LCD setups. If you want to run dual LCDs, more power to you, but I would be SHOCKED if the percentage of dual-LCD users is anything over 1% of worldwide computer users.

so that BFG is 30 bucks more I would assume it would be truly worth the extra 30 bucks ?

Bear with me the last time I looked at video cards were when the 9500 pro was new.

the 6800 is like a step up from the 6600GT, and the 6800 OC is a step (slightly smaller) up from 6800, since it's overclocked right out of the factory. plus has a lifetime warranty and tech support. $249 is a steal

GUIDE

If you do unclock the additional pipes it performs like ASUS's V9999GT because it uses DDR memory rather then GDDR3.

In the card description:
PCI Express support
AGP 8X

PCI-e support? What does this mean?

The card is really AGP. I have no idea why it says PCI Express, but that site also lists it as a FX6800 even though i9t is not part of the FX series.

I believe 'Features' is mostly refering to general architecture design, hence the mention of both AGP and PCI-E support.

However, under 'Specifications', it is clearly listed as AGP.

Kind of confusing.

True, but youre paying less compared to the V9999GT's price.
