i recently have a powmax powersupply and have heard very bad things about this particular brand. I have had the powersupply since november of 2004 and had a couple of voltage problems and some sudden restart so i decided to get a new one.
specs:
asus p5gdc-v deluxe mobo
intel p4 2.8 ghz cpu
1 gb of patriot ram(i think i might buy corsair or a more respectable brand if it makes a difference)
intel gma 900 onboard video (after i get the psu i am upgrading to the ati x800xl pci-e)
5 coolermaster case fans
stock heat sink

i have been looking at the antec smart power 2.0 500W psu for 75.00 at newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937

i was wondering if anybody has a good as if not better powersupply recommendation for very close to the same price. or if anyone agree's with my decision

You can always trust Antec for providing great PSU's.

OCZ mod stream is great too but a bit on the expensive side.

My choice: SeaSonic PSU's.

Antec has a good rep and I think this PSU would do you fine. My only comment is that it appears to be dual 12v rail psu and ATM I prefer a strong single rail over a dual rail psu.

what is ATM
do you have any single rail psu's in mind for around the same price

ATM = at the moment

This is the one I like, but the Egg is sold out ATM (although looks like they are supposed to get a new batch in today if I read correctly)

I like the price and specs but the people who reviewed it didnt seem to happy
do you know of any quieter ones

Well. I'm the wrong one to ask about noise 😉 I'm an OCer and a FPS gamer, so my rig sounds like a jet taking off. I just can't hear it over the noise of gunfire and explositions. Others will need to chime on the noise issue.

But, I hear the Seasonic units are quiet.

does any one now of a powersupply of comprable price and performance that is quiet
or is the original smart power ok
