power in my new apt is very flaky. Ive blown the fuse for my room twice already with just the comp, monitor, speakers, and a compact fluorescent light turned on. Monitor screen is flickering as we speak. I need some good, clean power going into my PC and monitor. Is this following Belkin piece good? How bout the price?

Belkin 1200VA UPS

I have that exact UPS & it will hold my system for about 20 minutes (PC Power & cooling 510watt & 19 inch Trinitron) ... the only problem I've had with it is that for some reason its USB connection isn't detected by XP... serial works fine though.

Edit: Unit price is good, but overall deal depends on the shipping... its pretty heavy.

Check the total with shipping, then go over to belkin.com & check how much the total is there. The xxxxx coupon after all these years still works, but only gives you 40%off now(was 50%).

does it come with any diagnostic software that tells you power consumption and/or quality info?

you'd have to sell your computer.

It comes with a program called "Bulldog" that shows power levels, loads etc & allows for shutdown customization ... not the best but it works as well as other free utilities I've used like APC Powerchute.

i'll look into this

DO NOT try to replace a fuse panel with a breaker box without fully knowing what you are doing. Can be dangerous.

Brother is an electrician and he did the job for me a few years back very easily.
I watched him and would still not want to tackle it myself.
