Is this a good Power Supply for my setup?

I found this Power Supply at Newegg for $100. It has 36A on the 12v rail. Has anyone heard things about this Power supply that I should steer clear of it? Or is it a good one?

Here's what I want it to power:

2 optical drives
A raptor and a 7200 SATA drive
AMD 3200+
GeForce 6800 GT (SLI in the future)

Yeah that's about it. And I will overclock.

So, SLI and future-proof? Or do I have to spend 40 more dollars on an Antec 550W?

Well...
You don't mention a MB, but regardless it sounds like you want to go with a nForce4 board....make sure it has a 24 pin MB connector, alot will say how they have no problem with their adapter (24 pin to 20 pin), just be aware that running two gpu's will tax your psu. Why 1 raptor? Budget? There are alot of newer HD's coming out with 16mb buffers that put them neck and neck with 10,000 rpm drives. I went with the pc power and cooling 510 sli deluxe...fx55,2 raptors, 2 eVGA 6800 ultras, 1 diamond max 10 300gb hd, 1 gig ocz 3200 plat, dual uv light, sb audigy zs, nec 3520a, 2 12 cm case fans, 1 80mm case fan,....np so far with the psu, zippy also offers a killer psu. Whatever you do don't skimp on the psu, you'll regret it when you move up to dual video cards...good luck
btw, i went with the a8n-sli

yeah I'm getting a 16MB maxtor 300 GB drive. The raptor's for that 3 seconds in boot time that I save when I put my OS on it.

I don't have a budget. But if I can get a viable power supply for $100, and if the 36A on the 12V rail is on par with the best out there for $$ cheaper, I just wanted to know if it's a dud.

here's a link I forgot to include in my post....
PSU REVIEW

sparkle is in the review....again, most problems have been immature bios, user error, and weak psu's.

I had to jump through a couple of hoops when getting the maxtor diamond 10 300gb to work, I'll be reformatting the setup here in a week...ncq may be the culprit, I'll leave it enabled in the next run.

That reminds me... anyone know anything about the Antec TP-II? Considering NeoPower 480 is 2nd on the Modular list I was wondering if the TP-II is any good. Links to any possible reviews are always nice... can't seem to find one.

Might as well suggest the PCP&P 510 SLI (EDIT) to offset the fact that I'm going offtopic.. lol. I'm guessing that'll be enough for oc and sli.

The Sparkle 550 is a tank. If you can fit it in a mid-tower case, that PSU has enough oomph to power it.

Re. that Extremeoverclocking PSU review linked above - I've never seen so much BS in my life. Beware of any info regarding PSUs on fan-boy sites. Just remember that many gave glowing reviews to the Ultra X-Connect, when what it really is "is crap that glows".

.bh.

Zepper,
Opinions are like sphincters, everyones got one! Fan-boy or not here's another BS review you might like to review...just for your enjoyment...

SLI

bump on my question

Good power supply.

Move forward and God speed.

Pay no mind to Zepper, ArborBarber. He's still mad that his X-Connect made his SETI analyze at such a high rate that Aliens actually came down to his house to ask for their probes back. 😉 Of course, I think it's because he's using Linux. 😉

The Sparkle is often over looked and is a great choice. It should power all of that (including the SLI) with no problem.

I consider Sparkle(Forton) one of the best with Antec and Enermax.

I have a 350w Sparkle that powers quite a bit.

1700+@2.4ghz (1.79)
6800GT @ Ultra
2x512 Hyper X 3200 (2.8)
2 Optical drives
2x80 GB HDD
Santa Cruz
IDE controllercard

2 cold cathodes
3 case fans (1 LED)

😀

I have a 3000+/Neo2 Platty coming, I'm pretty sure it can handle it, but picked up a Antec Trupower 430 for $55.

Would rather not have to worry if it's a close call on a overclock.

Used this for close to half a year now, no probs at all. Runs TV card, 2 soundcard, 1 lan, 1 USB extension and AGP geforce.

My old box had 5 HD in it, running stably off a 300W Sparkle PSU

So I'll say that the 550W Sparkle would be just as dependable.
