Is this a good partition setup?

I have 2 drives: 30 GB and 10 GB.
I am thinking of partitioning them like this:

30 GB:
C: windows98, swapfile and games
D: all other programs

10 GB:
E: all downloads, temp files

Is this a good setup with game performance in mind? Or would having the 30GB drive all one partition improve performance any due to placement of swapfile, games on fastest (outer?) sections of the drive?

Looks fine to me. I will typically make one big partition instead of smaller ones. I have an 80GB raid0 array and it is one big partition.

looks fine to me. currently I have

40 GB HD

12 GB Win ME
6 GB Win XP
2 GB Music
The rest for apps

I would make the ME smaller and the XP is larger but something is f'ed up in my system.

your setup is alright

my 60GB harddrive is as followed:

C: 10GB WinXP and all programs
D: 20GB My Documents excluding multimedia, and downloads
E: 30GB MP3s, videos, game installations

For one o/s it looks fine.
I like to change o/s's or add them so: 30gb hdd
C:500mb FAT16 Dos
D:3.5gb NTFS W2k
E:4gb NTFS XP
F:10gb FAT32 program applications to share with all o/s's
G:12gb FAT32 Everything else

I like to clone my o/s partition on a system cd as a backup. I do include main common programs in that partition (such as ZoneAlarm, Nero, Office, Adobe, Quickverse, Quicken). Other stuff gets put elswhere.

my HD's when my 2 New ones and my RMA come bakc will be as follows

Maxtor ATA 100 30G
10G Win/XP
20G Non Essential Appz/Gamez

Maxtor 7200 40G
Video Capture

Ibm 60Gb
Binaries Downloads Etc

WD 60GB 5400
Mp3 and Movie Storage

You're suggested arrangement looks good to me. My 46GB Maxtor is partitioned as follows:

C: 4.88GB, WinXP
D: 8.48GB, Programs
E: 9.78GB, MultiMedia
D: 19.7GB, Back-up

I have 30gig and 13.5 gig drives

13.5gig drive
?: 2gig, for other OS
C: 2gig, for OS only
D: 3gig, for programs
E: rest, for anything else

30gig drive
F: almost all, mp3, anime.. etc
G: 1/4gig, swap file

my 60 gig is
10: gig Win 2k
Rest: Storage

i install games on the 10 gig. i do it like this because i format my HD sometimes and dont like having to loose all of my stuff.

Maybe i'm just wetahded, but i don't totally agree with that article. I'd rather split a large drive into a few partitions (IMHO, 2 partitions). I usually keep apps and windows on the first partition, and all the stored stuff such as MP3s and installation files on my other partition. This usually makes it pretty easy if you need to do a quick reformat.

edit - forgot to include that your partition setup looks good to me!
