is this a good method to find job/help?

so this is what I"m planning to do. I am a math major and I'm thinking of a future career in actuary. I'm thinking of sending a mail to a bunch of the actuarial consultants in my state, and asking them if they have a place for me to watch them work, and help out a bit....and telling them that I am doing this only for experience and not expect money in return. and I will attatch my resume.

Is this a good way to get my foot in the door? I'm about to graduate soon, but I have had no relevant work experience yet, but I am willing to do anything just to get started....

^ good point, phrasing it as an unpaid internship would sound more professional.
