Is this a good labtop?

I'm thinking of getting a labtop mainly for taking to class. Wireless internet, some gaming, battery life, some video watching are the main points I'm looking for.

It looks good but not sure about Acer. Otherwise looks good. Anyone else have any input about the newer Acer laptops? All I can remember are their older desktops and I did not like them, but that has been years.

Just about any desktop would make for a good labtop. I believe the Dell poweredge with celeron (taken from another post here recently) would make for one of the cheapest completely built and warrantied system out there. You could put it on top of your lab.

Why do SO MANY people keep calling them labtops? Even in the face of everyone else saying and spelling it properly.... oy.

Unless you work in a laboratory, it's a LAP-top. Get it? For your lap? The built-in table that magically appears on your body when you sit down, unless your engorged tummy overlaps it. ;)

This one will work great for what you described. What Service and Warrenty options are available? That can make a big difference. I got a Dell simply for the service.

Good luck!

Looks pretty good, however I can't tell you how high of quality those Acer laptops are. I only know of one person who owned one, and he didn't have any problems, and thats really not enough to form a solid opinion on. As JWMiddleton said...check out the service and warranty options on it. I have already had the experience of having a laptop bust on me without having a warranty to cover it, and now its just a $1,200 paper weight, as I refuse to pay $800 for a replacement mobo and repairs on a 1+ year old laptop.

Looks very good to me for the price, and rest assured acer are much better than Dell.

I've never been impressed by dells build either. When I went looking for a new centrino laptop, i looked at acer and my wife was like, I'm not going to have an acer. What is an acer anyway, she would say. I see no problems with the acer laptops, just like any other midrange laptop.
I went for a winbook w360, cause I got a good deal on it, which is based on the Mitac 8050, which is used by voodoo, hypersonic, and others. is it namebrand, not really.. Does it work well, yes.

As long as it has a good warranty and you like what it comes with at the price, go for it.
