I had a 160GB Seagate, my first SG, and it's slowly crapping out on me. The volume shows up as dirty every other day and I ran a diagnostic which it passed the first time, then failed the second minutes later.
These drives are crap, I'm forced to conclude.

Had a wonderful, though smaller, Western Digital 80GB and would like to go back to those, but would like to know if anyone has this particular drive already, and if so, any thoughts? Or recommendations, 250GB and up? Thanks in advance...:)

i'd check out the hot deals forum, you can often get a 250gb for ~$50 after mail in rebates.

As long as you don't buy Maxtor, you should be fine.

I can't believe you don't like Seagate, they are the only brand of hard drive I have complete faith in.

Well, you only get one chance to make a first impression and my first with SG has gone very badly...

Sorry to hear that, but if your drive is slowly dying then back your data up and rma that puppy. You can do that cuz it has a 5 year warranty. I'm sure it is a fluke. All hdds fail, but Seagates are built better than others. Has Seagate given you a hard time about returning it? Good luck bro. :)
